Work introduction
The compositional idea of this technically demanding work for piano ( esp. for the left hand) is based on the musical realization of the principle of the tides determining the sea:
Rushing virtuoso sound waves alternate with absolutely static passages characterized by stationary tones and resonant effects symbolizing the ebb tide.
This dependence on the laws of nature and time reflected in the various atmospheres of the piece is elaborated in timbristic details with highly differentiated pedalling techniques .
