David Chaillou
Au piano de Sibelius
Duration: 3'
Solos:
piano
It is a tribute to the great Finnish composer Jean Sibelius following a visit to his house. I tried to translate the magical atmosphere of the place. The piece includes at one point a very simple vocal part that must be sung by the performer in counterpoint to the piano part. This piece was premiered in Italy at the Charles Adriaenssen festival in Alessano, then played on France Musique and in Finland. It is dedicated to Laura Mikkola and the former director of the Sibelius House.
"A spiritual space". "A modem Impressionism" and "a modern minimalist approach». «The result is a transparent lightness of sound. A very dynamic music that rarely stops at a chord, but on the contrary is always in motion (...)" . Hans Ackermann. Radio RBB-Kultur Berlin (05.03.2020). "Echoes create distances, spaces, noises, and shadowy layers of harmony. At the same time, Chaillou picks up and sounds at ease individual tones or warmly vibrating treble harmonies. The end result is expertly written, sensual and very French piano music."Aki Yli-Salomäki. YLE-National-Finnish Radio (Helsinki) (18.02.20).
