jazz piano 5 contains ten compositions from different jazz styles in an arrangement for the advanced pianist. "sunglow swing" is a swing tune, "samba lilac" a jazz samba, "red rag" a ragtime on a blues form, and "blue nocturne" is a bolero jazz composition. "rufouspoem" mixes European and popjazz while "brownsugar" is inspired by the hardbob era of the 1950s. The Ballad "maroon romance" and the jazz waltz "pine tree waltz" spring from the sound of modern mainstream jazz. Finally, the rhythm change "harlequin bop" and the salsa jazz number "salsa black and cream" offer room for groove and virtuosity. Each arrangement consists of an introduction, a theme section and a notated improvisation.
