Description
A map is not supposed to replace the landscape but to provide orientation. This will not work if we try to represent all details like in a photo; instead, we must structure the original and reduce it to the essential spots and lines.
Similarly, this arrangement does certainly not aim to “improve” the piano part of this piece – Beethoven would be turning in his own grave! Instead, it is something like a summary with keywords.
When we practice and teach, we do not always have a pianist at hand at the flick of a switch; reading a score is not so easy; when we (as cellists) play from a score, choosing the parts, transposing by an octave, turning pages etc. is stressful; and youtube cannot provide solutions for all problems …
This arrangement is supposed to help cellists find orientation in the jungle of the many notes of the piano part, understand the most important lines of the piano part in the context of the cello part as a dialogue and, thus, come fully prepared to the first rehearsal with the pianist.
There is a piano reduction of every orchestra piece, so why can’t there also be a “cello reduction” of a piece?
Compositional mistakes were accepted to provide better playability.
