Description
The title Reverberance describes the “aura” that follows a melody when some or all of the notes are sustained, as when a melody is played on the piano with the pedal down. It is accomplished here through orchestration, when certain notes are struck on several different strings within the ensemble. This technique is clearest during the third movement where, at times, up to eight different strings sound the same note. However, some degree of reverberance is present in all four movements.
This work has enjoyed great international success. After its premiere in California in 2006, it has been performed by many ensembles throughout Europe, but has been especially championed by the Quatuor de Guitares de Versailles, the Quartetto Apeiron (based in Trieste), and the Kharkov Guitar Quartet, who is about to release their interpretation of it on a new CD.
