Description
The piece, dedicated to the flutist Luisa Sello, is originally for solo flute and string orchestra and is published here in the elaboration for flute quintet commissioned by Luisa Sello for the group "LE AGANE" she founded.
Inside the piece there are some of the most famous Friulian Villotte and dances: "Ce bjelis maninis", the Stajare "Tintine Tintone", "'O ai preât la biele stele", "Antica Furlana campestre" and "Schiarazule Marazule ". Maravee tries to unite these popular melodies in a single piece through a unitary language. I tried to develop these melodies without distorting them, in order to give them a modern edge but at the same time letting them maintain their features and their recognizability. I wanted to make them rise, stand out in such a way that they can bring out their characteristics and their modernity, because the past is our leading light, our wisdom that teaches us how to live the present and to think about the future.
In Maravee there are polyphonic plots, very lyrical moments alternate with very rhythmic moments, with delicate sound mixes followed by more rough agglomerations. The compositional style used follows the compositional techniques typical of the 20th century tradition used by Stravinski, Prokofiev, Janácek, reworked according to a personal sensitivity, mixed with a language that caresses that of film music. The result is a style which, as the critic Mattia Mei writes, "is placed somewhere between the profound classical background and the suggestions of a soundtrack".
Curiosity:
The term Stajare indicates a rustic dance which comes from Austria, in particular from Steiermark region, and from there it has arrived in Italy and in Friuli Venezia-Giulia. Here the dance took on typically local features with a rustic touch that remembers a mazurka. The Stajare theme was used by Beethoven in his Sonata Op. 81a entitled “Das Wiedersehn”.
