Description
Do not let your hearts be troubled for soprano and chamber orchestra is a meditative composition from deep sorrow and darkness to ultimate Light, Bliss and Peace. The Bible verses from the Gospel of John were selected by the composer. It is a work of universal meditation, not restricted to any particular doctrine. According to the composer's own remarks, the verse on the "rejoicing world" in the composition should be understood as "all kinds of adversities and crises in a physical and transient world that divide us from our connection with the primordial, infinite and loving Spirit", while the end of the work reflects "the eternal Conscious Light of what and where everything is, the deepest essence – love, but concealed from our physical and visible world and beyond comprehension".
The work was written only in two days in January 2019 as if it had been dictated from somewhere. Musically the work pays a tribute composer Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750). The second section of the work in D major is stylistically more inspired by the music of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809–1847).
The world premiere performance took place on 20 March 2019 at the Church of the Cross (Ristinkirkko), Lahti, performed by soprano Janina Mäyry. Ensemble de Ton Celéste, formed exclusively for the occasion, was conducted by the composer. Piano reduction has been prepared for the rehearsals only.
