Description
The thirty chorale preludes are in the North German organ tradition in terms of movement technique and pedal treatment, and the number naturally also alludes to Reger's collection "30 little chorale preludes" op 135a, (1914). Stylistically, the movements are determined by an appropriate harmonic treatment of the old diatonic melodies, which, however, goes far beyond major-minor harmony.
As a further contemporary element, there are polymetrics in the movements in various complications: some movements are multi-layered with the simultaneous running of different metrical layers (including the c.f., i.e. a kind of constriction), others are simpler, in compound time signatures, or by a chorale melody metrically set apart from its accompaniment.
The chorale preludes were premiered on the occasion of the anniversary "500 Years of Reformation" on 3 November 2017 in St. Martin's Church in Braunschweig (Georg Gottschlich, Robin Hlinka and Lukas Speer, organ).
