Description
The composition Due Pezzi Brevi for single-reed wind instrument (saxophone or clarinet
of any size) was written in 1985 and was revised in 1995.
The first piece (moderato) plays on a rhythmic cell that gives way to short figures
expanding on the various registers of the instrument. In the high register the material
insists on certain pitches because there is a geometric compositional work originated
from the same cell. In the medium-low register, on the other hand, the intention is to
emphasize the warm expression of the sound by working on the dynamics. In the second
piece (swing), which is a mimicry of jazz movements, the rhythmic measure becomes
regular and therefore the cell develops into a phrase. In the middle part there is a meno
mosso that leads to a studied staccato passage until returning to the main phrase and
concluding.
