Description
Deus, Deus meus was premiered by the Escolania de Montserrat directed by Bernat Vivancos at the Musica Antiqua Europae Orientalis International Festival of Early Music 2012 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
Deus, Deus meus has been written in response to the request by Bernat Vivancos, director of the Escolania de Montserrat choir. It was premiered during the Autumn 2012 concert tour, including performances at the Musica Antiqua Europae Orientalis International Festival of Early Music in Bydgoszcz (Poland), Barcelona, Vila-seca, Valls and Badalona.
Deus, Deus meus begins with a single note that, in an energetic and rhythmic way, expands harmonically until it originates the four-note motif corresponding to the opening verse. The harmonic expansion of the first verse becomes a melodic expansion in the verse sitivit in te, anima mea, through the reiteration of a very wide and expressive intervallic jump by the soprano voice that illustrates the cry of the psalmist. Deus, Deus meus is dedicated to the families of the boy’s choir of Montserrat.
