Description
One may ask, what exactly is this composer trying to communicate about this piece of music which contains a title like Skies Of Pearl Meadows of Rain. This enigmatic and mysterious title hopefully conjures up a visual association. Fanciful and make-believe imagery is sometimes designed to spark or stir one’s unencumbered imagination. Much like the album artwork of Roger Dean which was designed to enhance the extra musical experience of Yes’s music. A particular rock genre of art music that I grew up listening too. It’s easy to imagine and be inspired and more strenuous, I find, to be prosaic and unadventurous.
This title is like a colorful and poetic daydream. And the music is no different. An artist is allowed to daydream, yes? The birthright to imagine and envision, however agile and picturesque it may be, is written in the fine print of a composer’s artistic etiquette. If it may help I wrote the music first and then re-imagined the colorful title. Hopefully both the music and the title will take the listener on a agreeable and personal joy ride. A considerate ride that is as unique as the life, the time, and the imagination of the recipient’s ability to listen. The music is hopeful and full of goodness. Like the title suggests Skies of Pearl Meadows of Rain implies a leap of fun, I mean faith. It is also an encouragement of optimism as well.
It is scored for flute clarinet, bassoon, horn in F, xylophone marimba, tubular bells, harp and solo violin. It is a work conceived as a instance an occasion of something extraordinary something reachable and something miraculous. This is a work for chamber orchestra.
