Goethe declared, “No pleasure is temporary; for the impression it leaves is lasting”. Consequently, In the Secret of the World is music to enjoy in the best sense of the word. The piece was inspired by paintings and drawings, but also by the lyrical world of the Venezuelan poet Vicente Gerbasi (1913-1992). This is expressed in the colourful and unusual harmonic development.

The various changes of tempo should encourage a flexible interpretation, as if it were the reading of a poem.

Premiered by pianist Anna-Maria Maak on November 9th, 2016 | Oberlichtsaal der Stadtbibliothek Leipzig.
