Description
The Jota is a traditional dance and song that has spread throughout Spain. The Jota piornalega is inspired by the dance of the same name that originated in the Extremaduran town of Piornal, in Cáceres. The work was commissioned by the AMC Márgenes for the clarinettist Víctor Díaz Guerra, who performed it for the first time on 23rd July 2024, as part of the VII International Music Festival "Monumental City of Cáceres".
Originally written in the form of a rondo for clarinet in B flat, with two clearly differentiated voices that alternate between verses and choruses. The second voice sometimes overlaps with the first, which is acoustically possible in most rooms. In order to maintain its popular character, the interpretation allows for certain liberties, such as the possibility of inserting short silences between sections, ornaments and variations, as well as the modification of some articulations, tempi and dynamics, if the interpreter considers that this improves what is suggested.
