Description
Bastinato is a duo for tuba and timpani of approximately 10 minutes in
duration. It is divided into three main sections, a relentless, increasingly
active ostinato, a more reflective middle section, and a finale that returns
to the spirit of the opening
.
The title is a portmanteau (made-up word), combining "Bastinado" (hitting
with sticks), and "ostinato":.
