Description
The language used throughout the piece is modal, with microtonal elements. The melodic discourse is often interrupted by pauses, as we find in traditional music that try to direct consciousness to the dimension of the spirit - musical notes are often used to point to the background of silence that surrounds the music. In the final part of the piece appears a quote from a poem that belongs to the important Sufi poet Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi - a definition of love.
Rumi’s secret is dedicated to Drake Mabry, who recorded the work on the CD The Wandering Ney - Contemporary Music for Ancient Instruments in 2020.
