Description
Symphonic Triptych No.2 Sea Songs consists of three orchestral Sea Songs that can be performed separately as stand alone orchestral pieces, or together - as a Symphony cycle. The first Sea Song was commissioned by the Royal Academy of Music in London in memoriam Sir Henry Wood following a composition competition, and premiered by the Royal Academy Concert Orchestra at Sir Henry Wood centenary Gala concert conducted by the composer at the Duke’s Hall in 2011. It was followed by Sea Song II premiered by the Varna State Opera Symphony Orchestra conducted by the composer at a festive Annunciation Concert in 2016, and Sea Song III dedicated to composer’s mother Nina in 2017. All three works share a particular kind of economy/simplicity/concentration of instrumental and compositional means and a particular exegetic treatment of medieval Byzantine and Bulgarian chants within the composer’s signature technique of Morphing Modality.
