Description
In 2016 I had the honor and privilege of being selected to be part of the French Academy in Madrid - Casa de Velasquez. Admitted along with fourteen artists, among whom were photographers, painters, sculptors and architects, among others, it was undoubtedly one of the most enriching experiences in my artistic development. During that year, among other things, I discovered the pictorial work of Nathalie Bourdreux. Her work, related to macabre images made up of skulls and skeletons, caught my attention. The theme of death, present without any concession in all of her paintings, germinated in me the idea of writing something about it. Nathalie had been painting a series "Danzas Macabras" at the end of our residency and I could not leave Madrid without acquiring one of her paintings. And the Darkness dances, for violin and cello, is inspired by the dark image of his painting where two skeletons of women, dancing despite fatality, remind us that, just as in times of the plague, death dances for everyone.
