Work introduction
This work is inspired by the different gestural –textural form,
I tried to express an innermost prayer through a series of mysterious musical soundscape, by making use of Japanese instrument shakuhachi.
Another Eastern Philosophy of “Yin” and “Yang” (opposite forces that form a whole)
are also inspired and investigated.
Thus, in this work, oriental aesthetics is merged with Western musical horizons organically.
What is necessary to perform this work?
The following performance direction will be executed by shakuhachi performer:
meri: lowering the chin by lowered minor second pitch
kari: raising the chin by raising minor second pitch
kazaiki: violent breath sound attack, noisy effect
yuri: vibrato in general (various kinds)
otoshi: dropping the chin to lower the pitch at the end of sustained note
sorane: similar to muraiki, shorter pitches
tabane: flutter-tonguing with rolled German "r"
komi: staccato produced by stopping the airflow
kobushi:ornament for which last pitch of sutained note are suddenly attack and emphasized
muraiki: breath sound is emphasized
