Autumn leaves dancing in the wind for solo violaType: Noten
It was October in 2020. I had the opportunity to write a solo viola piece for a competition. What kind of music should I write?
When I imagined autumn, the famous jazz piece “Autumn leaves” came to mind.
It was a chilly, cloudy late autumn day.
When the wind blows, the fallen leaves roll and fly across the ground...
I wrote this piece based on that impression. As it turned out, this piece had nothing to do with
the jazz masterpiece. After the short melancholic prelude, the tempo changes faster with
technical pizzicatos and flagiorettos. This piece was selected as final piece at the Viola Society's
composition competition in North Carolina, and premiered at Maebashi in Japan in 2023.
