Work introduction
[Audio] Ave / Passacaglia
"Ave", (derived from "Ave Maria") is based on Ikeda's "String Sextet" (2013). As this sextet was composed with only natural harmonics no higher than the sixth harmonic, all pitches correspond to the notes of the G major scale, C sharp, and G sharp; in total, only nine notes. "Ave" was orchestrated for the first movement of "Water Cycle" for orchestra in 2017, and it was arranged for organ in 2021. For this arrangement, all the notes were lowered by a semitone adapting to the range of organ. "Passacaglia" composed as a continuation of the piece gives a perspective into Baroque, Romantic, and contemporary styles. The organ stops have been demonstrated by the composer with an organ owned by Mrs. Ryoko Mori, who was dedicated this composition.
"Ave and Passacaglia" is found on CD: NEW MUSIC FOR ORGAN [Phasma-Music 077] (Ekaterina Nikolaeva, organ).
