Work introduction
Azimuth is a term from astronomy that describes an angular measurement in a spherical coordinate system. The word azimuth comes from Arabic and literally means “the ways”.
"One is not enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by being aware of the darkness."
"Whoever perceives his shadow and his light at the same time sees himself from two sides, and that brings him to the center." (C.G. Jung)
Azimut suggests a musical path that invites both the questioning audience and the curious musician into their own, individual awareness of darkness and thus into their own center.
Azimut is a nine-minute musical experience, a Meditation for brass dectet and percussion written in June 2019 by Oriol Cruixent commissioned by the German brass ensemble Salaputia Brass and was premiered in Germany in September 2019.
