Work introduction
My friend, the painter and poet Friedrich Danielis, wrote the opera libretto "Doppler - The Coloured Light of the Double Stars" for me in the 1980s. However, my plans to be able to realise this project were prematurely dashed and so the libretto remained bare of its composition and made me feel extraordinarily bad towards the librettist. In 2002, when we were planning a house concert in his Venetian home, I had the opportunity to show him that I had not yet given up on the plan to turn his text into an opera, and wrote "Das Sternenlied", which occupies a central position in the final section of his musical poem.
