Work introduction
De Profundis is based on Psalm 130 of the Bible. The inexorable flow of time is suggested by the steady pulsation of the percussion, in a slow motion. The melodic contour of the soloist combines traditional writing - in which influences of Gregorian chant are felt, with extended techniques - by enriching the fundamental sound with harmonics, a technique used in Buddhist monks' singing to point to the sacred dimension. De profundis was dedicated to Martin Wistinghausen, who performed the piece for the first time in Krefeld on November 7, 2015.
What is necessary to perform this work?
The Bass Drum will be played by the singer.
Optionally, the drum can be replaced by the sound of the foot hitting the ground.
