Work introduction
Dolina is a word of the Slovenian language used in the Karst region to indicate a valley.
When I lived in the Karst area, this natural conformation has always aroused many emotions in me, and when the flutist of the Spectrum quintet, coming from Slovenia, asked me to write a song for this formation, the title and the music originated in me spontaneously.
The style used to compose this quintet is the modal style, a style that I feel particularly similar and which is used following the compositional techniques typical of the 20th century tradition used by Stravinski, Prokofiev, Janácek, relaborated according to a personal sensitivity and mixed with a language that caresses that of film music. The result is a style which, as the critic Mattia Mei writes, "is placed somewhere between the profound classical background and the suggestions of a soundtrack".
