Work introduction
A song coming from afar slowly takes its shape more and more contoured and develops into a lively, vital, euphoric melody, which then in the 3rd third of the work lets go of the momentum it has gained and silently disappears into the distance over the horizon.
I wrote the first version of the work in 2002 for clarinet, violin and piano and gave it the title
DA Lontano. Because of the capital letters, the title is ambiguous in two languages. The Italian da lontano (from a afar) shares the meaning with the Hungarian word DAL (song) in one title. Together they form an international collage of terms: A Song from afar.
Fifteen years later in 2017, after the melody happened to reappear in my dream, I adapted the work for clarinet, cello and piano and gave this instrumental mirror image of the first version its own identity with the new title "Dreamscape".
