Work introduction
Escultura de roja luz interna, is a version for clarinet, string quartet, piano and percussion of my composition Red inner light sculpture, for Violin and String Orchestra - commissioned by the celebrated Moldovan violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja. This version, reduced in number of musicians and duration, was premiered at the Festival Música Sur de Motril / Granada on September 22, 2020, with Joan Enric Lluna as soloist, Quatuor Diotima, Juan Carlos Garvayo on piano, Agustín Diassera on Percussion, plus LaMoneta's powerful flamenco dance. Our score is a kind of inner map of memory, which goes through imaginary expressive landscapes, based on some forms of Andalusian Flamenco, such as those called Soleá, Soleá por Bulería or Flamenco Tangos. After an introduction ‘con fuoco ', a succession of descending scales, built on spectral chords, lead us to the interior of that memory of fire that is the expressive cante por Soleá. After a section "por Tangos flamencos" a weightless texture appears, a metaphor for the contemplation of celestial cartography, of an inner sky full of luminous stars (the pitches played by the solo clarinet). A clarinet cadence, as a parody, marks the central point of the work's architecture. Flamenco dance –based on percussion– represents here the corporeity, the heartbeat and the outer shape of the torn soul of the music that resonates in this composition. Escultura de roja luz interna: passionate singing or burning interior sculpture.
