"Swift" is my second piano etude. The word "swift" has multiple meanings. The common swift is a medium-sized bird with a short forked tail and long wings. It is native to most of Europe and Asia, wintering in southern Africa. Its scientific name (Apus) means "legless", referring to its small and undeveloped legs. Outside the nesting season it flies continuously, never landing. Another meaning of the title is quick, rapid, nimble... The piece is inspired by the song and flying patterns of the common swift, which is sometimes very hectic and virtuoso in speed and in changing altitude.
