Work introduction
This work won the 2024 Composition Competition of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz.
The creation of the work originated from my witnessing and imagination of the changes in a city that I have visited several times. It has transformed from a vast field, vibrant, to a city densely populated with high-rise buildings, the narrow sky was filled with the dim smoke of factories. In the future, I think this city will turn into a ruin.
These seems to be the histories that most cities where humans gather are experiencing, and this work explores the issue of harmonious coexistencebetween humans and nature.
In terms of pitch materials, the work uses the sounds of birds chirping, cars driving on the road, car horns, bicycle bells, and the sounds of factory opration to transform these sounds into pitch for creation; I also added my own designed pitch-class sets as supplements to the sound system. In terms of structure, the work roughly follows the scene description of fields, cities, skies, and ruins. Of course, there may be overlapping scenes in certain parts, such as the vitality of the fields being rediscovered in the ruins.
This work depicts both past and present issues, and potential human experiences in the future. perhaps they will have a solution.
