Work introduction
Folías is a composition based on the idea of instrumental displacement. The Baroque ensemble is thus dislocated from its original use in order to address new sounds. As a background to the work, three “folía fantasies” appear as a vague memory of the harmonic scheme typical of Spanish music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Folías can be defined as a watercolour that vaguely hints at a faded musical past while showing unprecedented colours in the Baroque ensemble.
