Work introduction
The original version of “Grain de sable” is a trio for flute, guitar and piano composed in 1985 for my jazz-rock group in which the piano part was entirely improvised.
It was only in 2023 that this version for flute, violin and piano in the spirit of Claude BOLLING's pieces, a synthesis between classical music and jazz, saw the light of day.
Everything is written, clarified so that the result sounds “improvised jazz”.
Only the introduction, free and ample, is binary.
The main theme, on a descending scale, is in the “Swing” style.
In the central parts, in 3 beats, flute and violin are in constant dialogue.
The chords indicated will allow pianists who wish to free themselves from the score.
