Work introduction
These art songs were written in a short spur in 2017 in Rome. The composer worked closely with the texts, and the works show an acute sense of key-relation awareness between the songs, as well as careful consideration of the narrative arch. At first glance the three poems by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe have little to do with one another, but a penetrating look at what lies behind them reveals much deeper connections—connections that reach all the way into the heart of the music.
