Work introduction
The title is clearly inspired by Claude Debussy’s Images. In his two-movement work, Halffter alludes to Francisco de Goya’s Black Paintings. In the Adagio, however, he also builds a bridge to the final String Quartet op. 131 composed by Goya’s contemporary, Ludwig van Beethoven, in 1825.
