Work introduction
Not much is known about Beethoven’s love life. What we do know is that he wrote a series of love letters to an unknown woman, who is now known as ‘The Immortal Beloved’.
“My angel, my all, my own, own self”, is how Ludwig begins writing his outpouring of emotions, and our guess is that this love was most likely unrequited. This song- a soul ballad with classical vocal phrases which defies categorization- is set to the words of Beethoven’s deeply romantic letter, and it is the love ballad that Beethoven may have even written himself had he been born in this century.
What is necessary to perform this work?
"Immortal Beloved" is scored for Clarinet, Bassoon, Horn, Strings, and Voice. There are optional parts for piano (or keyboard), E-Guitar, and E-Bass.
The desired style of singing should be a non-operatic approach, and therefore, it is advisable to use a cordless microphone, not only for amplification but to produce the desired vocal timbre.
