Work introduction
The soloist or "king" of the violins is at the center of the piece.
The other 5 parts are tutti parts and can be played by multiple players and divisi when there are double stops.
Parts 2 and 3 are for advanced players, whereas 4 and 5 are slightly easier and part 6 is for beginners. If any of the parts are too difficult feel free to leave out some of the notes.
Any amount of violinists can play it together.
At its premiere with Daniel Hope who commissioned the work with the Philharmonie Essen, we had around 100 violinists playing the piece.
There are some theatrical instructions where the violinists try to surround and threaten the king, followed by some sword fighting using the bows.
The main aim is to have a lot of fun all together!
