Patagonia is a sparsely populated region located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile. The region comprises the southern section of the Andes mountains as well as the deserts, steppes and grasslands east of this southern portion of the Andes.
Marimba Patagonia is a Divertimento for Marimba structured in ternary form. In the composition one can hear musical influences from the argentinian Tango, followed by a middle section inspired by the rhythmics and melodics of the Chilean dance Cueca.
Marimba Patagonia was written in November 2012 for the Chilean percussionist Claudio Estay and dedicated to him.
