ALKIS BALTAS
gemischter Chor (Nun ruhen alle Wälder )Type: Chorpartitur
The work was written during my last year of studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin.
The lyrics are sung in German and belong to a poem written by the German hymnodist Paul Gerhrardt (1607-1676).
The poem begins with the lyrics:
“Now all the woods are sleeping, and night and stillness creeping, over city, man, and beast; But thou, my thoughts, awake thee, You should begin to do what please your Creator…….”
The work ends with a very short excerpt from the song “Innsbruck” by Heinrich Isaac (1450-1517). This melody was also used by J. S. Bach in several sacred works.
