Die Verwandlung (The Metamorphosis) is one of Franz Kafka's most well-known works, depicting a man who has found himself transformed into a massive insect and spends much of his time hiding in his room. This concert overture musically tells this story. It describes his transformation, the reactions from his family, his growing acceptance of his new life, and the events that lead to his ultimate isolation.
