This piano sonata is in one movement, and it has the following interior sections: City, In the Park, Balalaika Song, and Mermaid. The work is inspired by numerous cities the composer has visited or lived in, including Cardiff, Prague, Buffalo, and New York City. It also draws inspiration from creation story around the balalaika, which is a favorite instrument of the composer.
