Work introduction
Marian hymns are Christian songs focused on the Virgin Mary.
The Latin Mariam hymn “Regina Coeli” (“Queen of Heaven”) is sung during Easter season.
The Angel announces that Christ was resurrected.
In my composition I use the following lyrics:
· Regina coeli laetare/ Quia quem meruisti portare / Resurrexit sicut dixit/
Ora pro nobis Deum. Alleluia.
· Queen of Heaven, rejoice / The Son whom you merited to bear/ Has risen, as He said / Pray for us to God / Alleluia.
Each of the four phrases of the text ends with the hymn "Hallelujah", which the four-voice choir sings in the asymmetrical rhythms of 5/8, 9/8, 10/8, 5/8 respectively.
