Work introduction
Based on Gilles Deleuze's philosophical concept, originally taken from botanics, "rhizome" stands for a non-hierarchical construct of multiplicities. The thematic material is embedded in an ethereal sonic environment, resisting chronology in favor of a nomadic system of growth and decline.
It premiered in 2019 at Wien Modern, performed by Ensemble Kontrapunkte.
What is necessary to perform this work?
The piece should preferably be played at the beginning or right after the intermission of a concert.
The Crystal Glass players must be positioned opposite each other on the far left and right of the stage, preferably on the balcony if available. Both players as well as the ensemble must be seated on stage before the audience starts to enter the hall, the conductor motionlessly
facing the musicians. The first Crystal Glass player starts independently with the first person entering. While more people enter and take their seats, the second player begins playing his C on his own discretion. Once the majority of the audience is seated, the first player will add the D. With the doors closing and the light being dimmed, the audience will eventually completely calm down. After waiting a short while in total silence in the auditorium, the conductor will start conducting more or less unnoticed at no.1.
