Work introduction
Indian philosophy states that the human consciousness is expressed through three universal qualities - gunas, namely:
- Sattva - representing stability, purity, the essence of light
- Rajas - representing the principle of movement
- Tamas - representing the tendency toward inertia.
The qualities of guna Sattva are suggested in this work by using essentialized sonic material, the natural resonance having great importance within the piece. The allusion to a circular temporality is accomplished by using a musical time free of metric pulsation; the suggestion of a transtemporal space is enhanced by the use of a slow tempo and also from the non-gravitational harmonic structures.
