Work introduction
The orchestral work “Schock – a symphonic poem” is rhythmically and harmonically extremely dense, while the themes themselves are sometimes grotesquely lapidary and banal, although over the course of the work they overlap, until multifaceted, polyrhythmic textures emerge (that’s why I gave the generic name , german „Symphonische Dicht-ung“, aptly found). The material goes back to a grotesquely surreal short opera of the same name that was performed in Innsbruck and Vienna in 2005, but the orchestral work is longer than the opera itself, a rare case where a "suite" is longer than the stage work on which it is based.
