Work introduction
This work was commissioned by the National Flute Association Low Flutes Committee for its premiere at the 46th Annual NFA Convention in Orlando, Florida, in 2018, conducted by the composer.
The point of departure was Emily Brontë's powerful poem of the same name. In general, the work is conceived so that each of the three movements represents a prelude to each of the three stanzas of the poem, followed by music representing the stanza itself.
It is scored for a minimum of three alto flutes, two bass flutes, and contrabass flute, though a larger ensemble is preferred.
The three continuous movements should be listed in the program:
I - Allegretto con moto
II - Adagio espressivo
III - Allegro molto
