Work introduction
Spiritual Ornithology is a reflection on avian poems by Mary Oliver. The five part
structure is somewhat of an arch form with the central Marsh Hawk forming the
dominant core of the work, the style of which is meant to be reminiscent of Messiaen.
The outer "songs" employ more neo romantic lyrical language while the shorter
second and fourth pieces are more dissonant.with stratified harmony.
