Leonardo Schiavo
Stone Plains
Duration: 10'
Solos:
viola
Stone Plains is a rewriting of Schiavo's Viola Sonata composed around 2005. The aim of the piece is to give to the instrument two different souls, that is the viola as a popular instrument and a classical instrument at the same time. For the popular spirit Schiavo was inspired by Eastern Europe sounds. For classical sound his main inspiration were Bach’s works for solo string. Stone Plains reflects on a imaginary and symbolic landscape which is wide and stony; a geographic and inner landscape.
