Tekeli-li
Duration: 7'
Solos:
flute
Tekeli-li was composed in 2009, the bicentenary of Edgar Allan Poe.
Poe’s unfinished novel The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket is
punctuated by the incoherent cry “tekeli-li!” which is echoed throughout my
piece as a kind of homage.
Tekeli-li was written for the Irish flautist William Dowdall, to whom it is
dedicated, and who included the original version on his CD Breathe.
