Work introduction
The Lonesome Traveler is a musical portrait of Jack Kerouac, the American writer
who found inspiration in traveling across North America, resulting in a
new kind of fiction, exemplified by books such as On the Road, and Lonesome
Traveler. This piece is in a kind of rondo form, alternating mostly pizzicato
"walking bass" road music (influenced by Stravinsky's bass writing in l' histoire
du soldat), with episodes of varying music, serving as temporary departures
from the walking road music.
The Lonesome Traveler was written for and premiered by Rusty White.
