Work introduction
I love to write music for woodwinds.
The various colors or timbres that can be created using varied multifarious instrumental combinations is remarkable. I also love woodwind music at fast lively tempos. I must say that flute has always been my “go to” instrument. I love to write for flute and piccolo in their first octave. It’s so breathy and rustic.
For me, at least as far as woodwinds are concerned, timbre is of greatest importance. My objective is a new instrumental timbre using instruments that are popular and already in place.
This sextet embodies all these characteristics. It is a brisk fast tempo rollick around the block, a city block. It reminds me of what a happy city might sound like.
