Work introduction
This short work for clarinet and piano is based on the five Japanese haikus written below. The wind sound is one of the main elements and the music is trying to recreate images and feelings related to the original poems. Concentration, refinement and beauty are the compositional principles found in haikus and, at the same time, in this music.
Bamboo cutting sounds
From a far temple.
Nocturnal drizzle.
SHÔHA
The bell from far away.
How it moves along in its coming
through the Spring haze.
ONITSURA
Fall has come.
But not only
the wind.
HOKUSHI
Roving dreams.
Over charred fields,
the wind’s sound.
ONITSURA
A cooling breeze
And the whole sky is filled
With pine-tree voices.
