Work introduction
The poem is a space, the composition is a space. One space cannot be seen in its entirety from the other. The spaces communicate (provided there is a connection between them - a glass wall, a window, a gap), but not in their entirety. Part of the space remains hidden from view.
From the beginning, the collaboration with the poet Christine Huber is designed for interference between "pure" structure and latent content. The agreed common point of reference – lieder by Schumann - creates a field of association that gives every word and every musical gesture an obligatory aura. We will not escape this aura, but all attempts we make – each of us separately - to neutralize and transform it, at least to some extent, will bind text and music together and make them relatable to each other. Words and sounds are a priori not related to each other - a connection between them must first be established. Why else set a text to music?
